There were a number of games postponed this weekend due to bad weather but the majority of games went ahead in the Donegal Junior League.

Saturday 12th February 2022

Glencar Inn Saturday Division One

Kilmacrennan Celtic Reserves 0 v 3 Kildrum Tigers Reserves

(No Report Submitted)

Arranmore United 0 v 4 Fintown Harps AFC

There was a strong wind over at Rannagh Park as the Arranmore kicked off with the breeze. The visitors made a flying start and took the lead after 12 minutes. The home side came at Fintown with attack after attack.

Gary Heaney and Brian Proctor both came close, but were unable to hit the net and make the most of wind. The Second half started with the home side on the front foot. They came close when Glenn O’Donnell made a sieging run down the left flank and delivered a good cross that was nearly met by Martin Mc Garrigle, the Fintown keeper did well to diffuse the situation. Fintown went 2-0 up after a through ball led to the Fintown striker putting the ball in the Arranmore net.

Fintown then went 3-0 up after some nice football and a great strike from the edge of the box found the Arranmore top corner. In the 80th minute Fintown went 4-0 up to truly finish off the game. In the dying embers of the match John Roper took on two Fintown defenders and won the home side a late penalty. Brian Proctor stood up to take the penalty but was unable to convert the spot kick.

Donegal Town Reserves 1 v 2 Cappry Rovers Reserves

(No Report Submitted)

Milford United Reserves 3 v 2 Keadue Rovers Reserves

Milford staged a late comeback from 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go claim a much needed three points. Milford were the better team in the first half but Ciaran Blaney, Mikie Mc Bride and Jason Mc Conigley all missed good chances.

Keadue started the second half much better and found themselves two up, scoring from a corner and then a penalty. Milford never gave up and were awarded a penalty on 70 minutes for a foul on Ciaran Blaney. J

ason Mc Conigley made no mistake to make it 3-1 and 6 from 6 for the season. With 10 minutes left Milford made it 2-2 after a good run and finish from Kieran Sheridan. The comeback was complete 5 minutes later with Ciaran Mc Gettigan scoring a great header from a Lee Burke corner.

Team performances from both teams with Jason Mc Conigley and Killian Mc Bride best for Milford. Referee: George Montgomery

Old Orchard Saturday Division Two

Castlefin Celtic Reserves 1 v 2 St. Catherines Reserves

An experienced St. Catherine’s team finally got the better of a young Castlefin side with two goals in the closing stages securing the three points on Saturday.

In blustery conditions the hosts had the aid of the breeze in the first half and the better of the chances, Reece Gallagher and Dean Kelly going close. Castlefin finally made their pressure count, a good move down the right involving Marty Doherty and Ryan O’Hagan found Gallagher at the back post who headed home.

Corrie Lee Bogan rattled the cross bar & Nicky Scott tested the keeper as Castlefin dominated. The visitors were dangerous on the break, Paul Murrin and Barry Cannon both going close. In the second half, the hosts were comfortable and O’ Hagan went close after another break down the right.

In the final ten minutes St. Catherine’s got their reward, a long ball fell to Paul Murrin who slotted home and moments later a Murrin corner fell to Darragh Cunningham who poked into the net from close range.

Copany Rovers A v A Ramelton Mariners

(No Report, Match Abandoned))

Cranford United Reserves 2 v 2  Gweedore Celtic Reserves

The game was moved to Glenree Park and the players knew early on with Cranford playing against a gale force wind in the first half. Gweedore had the better of the first half and went in for the break two goals to the good.

Cranford came out firing at the start of the second half. They should have scored two early on from dangerous balls into the box from free kicks. Then with the wind causing chaos Cranford got one back from a Dylan McFadden corner, Connor Shiels the scorer.

It was all Cranford at this stage and they soon got the equaliser after good work from Fallon Mc Bride on the right. He found Connor Shiels who spun and stuck it in the corner. With 25 minutes remaining Cranford tried and tried to get the winner with chances falling to Shane Coll and Dale Mc Fadden but they couldn’t convert.

Drumbar F.C. 7 v 1 Swilly Rovers Reserves

Drumbar started the stronger with Robbie Murphy unlucky with a couple of efforts early on.

Drumbar eventually did break the deadlock when Liam Gallagher taken down in the area and Robbie Murphy scoring from twelve yards. A few minutes later Drumbar extended their lead to when Robbie Murphy cut in on to his right foot to hit a peach of an effort for his second of the afternoon.

From the start of the second half Drumbar hit a rich vein of form and extended their lead to 7-0 before the 60th minute. Swilly did manage to score a consolidation when Luke Hanlon hit a superb free kick from 30 yards to find the top corner to make it 7-1.  A fantastic win for Drumbar.

Drumoghill F.C. Reserves 0 v 2 Dunlewey Celtic

Dunlewey started the stronger with Jay Wosser making a good save early on. Drumoghill settled and gradually took control creating numerous chances with Gareth Temple hitting the underside of the bar, the closest anyone came to opening the scoring in the first half.

The second half was an even affair, however, Drumoghill created the best of the chances. The turning point in the game happened mid-way through the half when a Dunlewey free kick from their own half somehow bounced past the hapless Jay Wosser into the Drumoghill net.

Both teams had chances in a hotly contested last twenty minutes but it was Dunlewey who got their second ten minutes from time to claim a hard-earned victory and a valuable three points.
