Raft of cases adjourned over court delay

June 9, 2022

A raft of court cases were adjourned at Buncrana District Court because a Judge could not be sure people had been informed of the correct court venue.

The cases were due to be heard in Buncrana this month as it had been expected cases would return to the Inishowen courthouse after a two year absence.

However, it was announced last week that Buncrana Courthouse will not be ready for hearings until September.

A number of cases due to be heard today for Buncrana were called today at the court siting in Letterkenny.

However, Judge Eiteain Cunningham said she could not be sure that all those whose cases were listed for today were aware of the correct venue.

She apologised to Gardai present who were due to proceed with cases but said she could simply not be sure people were fully aware of the correct venue.

She adjourned all these cases to Buncrana Court which will sit in Buncrana on September 8th.

Judge Cunningham noted it would be a busy day but that she had been left with no altrnative.
