The Highlands Hotel in Glenties has gained a new owner.

The iconic hotel, which has been in business for over 50 years, was sold for an undisclosed sum via estate agency Lisney.

The hotel was owned and run by the Boyle family for over 40 years before coming under the stewardship of Canadian investor David Harvey in 2016.

The Ontario based businessman transformed the hotel to present it as a valuable opportunity on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Offers in excess of €900,000 were sought for the property when it went on the market last year. The price was a significant markdown on guide prices in 2007, when the hotel was valued at €5-€5.5million.

The 25-bedroom, three-star hotel now offers guests modern accommodation, conference and ballroom facilities, a new Bistro, Dining Room and Bar.
