There is widespread shock and sadness across Tipperary and all of Ireland at the news that talented county star Dillon Quirke has passed away after collapsing during a Senior Hurling Championship clash.

The 24-year-old was lining out for his club Clonoulty Rossmore in Semple Stadium when he collapsed just before half-time.

The game was subsequently abandoned after Quirke was stretchered off the field and rushed to hospital.

The Tipperary County Board issued a statement today saying: “Due to the tragic sad passing of Dillon Quirke from Clonoulty Rossmore, the Tipperary CCC has decided to call off all games under its jurisdiction this weekend.

“The Committee sends its deepest sympathy to the Quirke family and the people of Clonoulty Rossmore.”
