Liz Truss is to be elected as Britain’s new Prime Minister after winning the contest to replace Boris Johnson.
Truss was elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party today, beating Rishi Sunak by a vote of 57% to 43%. She will formally become prime minister tomorrow.
One of her first moves will be to freeze energy bills to support struggling households.
Outgoing PM Boris Johnson said the vote was a “decisive win”.
“I know she has the right plan to tackle the cost of living crisis, unite our party and continue the great work of uniting and levelling up our country,” Johnson tweeted. “Now is the time for all Conservatives to get behind her 100 per cent.”
Truss and Johnson will travel to Balmoral in Scotland tomorrow in order to meet with Queen Elizabeth II.
