Extra pedestrian safety measures have been carried out at the Cathedral one-way system in Letterkenny this week, following residents’ concerns.
Letterkenny-Milford Mayor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has confirmed that hedging has been removed and a safety handrail is to be installed at the crossing near Loreto post-primary school to Scoil Cholmcille.
After raising safety concerns on behalf of the residents of College Row and Convent Road, Cllr Kelly said he I’m delighted to see that the hedging has now been taken away.
Cllr Kelly said: “This has now made this crossing a lot safer for pupils and pedestrians to have a clearer view before crossing the road and also gives vehicles and road users a better view of pedestrians and pupils waiting to cross this crossing.
“I have also asked for a safety hand rail to be put in place at this crossing which I’m glad to announce the contractors have taken this on board and are going to install a hand rail in the coming days.
“I want to thank the contractors and also the Roads supervisor of this project for taking my concerns and the concerns of the residents on board and carrying out these very important safety improvements.”
