Fanad United 5 v 0 Kerrykeel ’71 F.C.
Fanad United took the local bragging rights in this derby match defeating Kerrykeel ‘71 5-0 in the Brian Mc Cormick Cup. Kerrykeel had the first effort of the match after five minutes when Charlie Mc Ateer’s shot was well held by Mark Mc Conigley. It was Fanad who took the lead in the 15th minute. Following some good work from Sean Carr, Eoin Logue found space in the box and fired home. Fanad extended their lead two minutes later in spectacular style. After a corner, the ball broke to Keelin Mc Elwaine 20 yards out and he curled a beautiful shot into the top corner with the outside of his foot. Fanad then got their 3rd just after the half hour. After some pressure the ball fell to Dylan Dorrian just inside the box and he found the bottom corner. The second-half was devoid of much action until the 75th minute when Fanad got their 4th. Young substitute Dylan Mc Gloin advanced from left back and when he cut inside he fired a curling shot into the top corner. With five minutes remaining a shot was parried by Kerrykeel keeper Shane Sandilands and Keelin Mc Elwaine was on hand to slot home from the edge of the box. Referee: Con Mc Laughlin.

Gweedore Area Group A
Glenea United 5 v 3 Gweedore Celtic
A minute silence was observed before the game in An Screában for Glenea United player
Christopher Mc Fadden. Glenea United settled the fastest on a fine evening for football under the lights
at the impressive facility. They had an early chance in the 5th minute with Calvin Murray.
From the resulting corner Lee O’ Brien saw his header well saved from the Gweedore keeper. Glenea
broke the deadlock on the 9th minute when Murray’s through ball found Blake Mc Garvey to finish
well. Glenea had a couple of chances to extend their lead but found the home keeper in great form.
The youthful Gweedore side were dangerous on the counter-attack and were rewarded when a through
ball found Cian Mc Bride coming in from the left side and he finished well. Just on the stroke of half
time Gweedore took the lead when Glenea failed to clear a corner and Ryan Greene finished well
to the net. From the kick off Glenea launched one more attack before half time with Jamie Doherty
finishing well from the edge of the box. Glenea started the second half with two early goals from Lee
O’ Brien and Calvin Murray. Gweedore Celtic never lay down and kept battling away and pulled
another goal back through Adam Mc Geever to set up a nervy final ten minutes. Ciaran Coll finished
the scoring by finishing well when played through by Murray. Good battling display from both sides.

Glencar Celtic 3 v 0 Milford United Reserves
After a shaky start by both teams, they soon settled into their stride, In the 38th minute Pajo Rafferty put Glencar in front. Milford had a few chances before half-time. In the 42nd minute, Pajo again scored from well outside the 18. At the start of the 2nd half, with Glencar well in control of the game, Pajo rounded off his hat-trick. Milford played well in spells but Deckie Mc Dermott in goals for Glencar protected his nets well. A good win for Glencar against a good Milford side.
Ramelton Mariners 2 v 4 Kilmacrennan Celtic Reserves
This match started at a blistering pace with the Mariners winning a corner straight from kick-off. The Mariners took the lead when Shane Fisher’s cross found the head of Eoin Roulston. The first half continued with Shane Fisher and Brandon Wilkie causing a lot of problems in the Kilmacrennan rear-guard. Phillip Buchanan pulled the away side level when he found the top corner after turning the defender on the edge of the Mariners’ box. The home side regained the lead when great work by Vinny Mc Laughlin on the left wing found Brandon Wilkie free in the Kilmacrennan box. The away side were level again three minutes later when a long ball into the Mariners’ box ricocheted off the head of Mariners’ centre-half Roulston to send goalkeeper Eddie Boyce the wrong way. The fifth goal of a very entertaining first half came when a well worked short corner landed at the feet of Ciaran Mc Cormack who found a gap at the near post to send the visitors in 3-2 ahead at the break. Kilmacrennan came out the better in the second half and got a well-deserved fourth when a flick-on from Buchanan found Jack O’Neil to make it four. The second half continued in the same vein with Buchanan causing all sorts of problems for the Mariners’ back-four but they couldn’t find another goal while the home side struggled to create any chances. Best for Kilmacrennan was Phillip Buchanan while Shane Fisher and Brandon Wilkie put in strong performances for the home side.
Swilly Rovers Reserves 2 v 2 Cranford United Reserves
Swilly started on the front foot and it was Daniel Mc Ateer who got the opener when he took the ball past four players and calmly finished. Both teams played some good football and it was Mc Ateer again who scored to double the Swilly lead. Cranford had a few chances near the end of the half but couldn’t convert. The second half started with Cranford on the front foot and they had a few chances but the Swilly defence stood firm. Midway through the half Cranford got a penalty which Blaney in the Swilly goal saved and he saved the rebound as well. Cranford got one back when a ball over the top wasn’t dealt with by the Swilly defence and Callum Shields found the bottom corner to bring them back into it. The equaliser came a few minutes later when Stephen Shevlin got the ball on the left-hand side and took on the defender and beat the Swilly keeper from outside the box. There were chances for both teams to grab a winner in the final few minutes, Cameron Gormley came the closest in the closing minute when his shot bounced off the crossbar. Referee: Leo Devenney.

Fintown Harps AFC 3 v 3 St. Catherines Reserves
The sun shone as Fintown and St. Catherines went to battle in the Voodoo Venue Cup match played at Pairc Achla.
Fintown starting the brighter, taking the lead on 10 minutes when a great ball from the wing from Aidan Gilroy found Michael Doherty who made no mistake from six yards out. On 20 minutes the forever young Peadar Toner came onto a loose ball in midfield and with a controlled first touch hit a spectacular shot from all of 25 yards that found the top corner. Paddy Molloy’s men were flying but they switched off for the last 20 minutes and let St. Catherines back into it. Aaron Byrne beat the off-side trap and the fishermen were right back in the game. They then levelled on 35 minutes with Josh Cunningham scoring from a set-piece. Now, with their heads up, St. Catherines took the lead just before half-time which was a sucker punch to Fintown who started the game so well. Fintown got caught in possession deep in defence and Dean Breslin, one on one with Karl O’ Brien in the Harps’ nets, slotted it low and hard pass the keeper. Molloy’s Harps battled hard after the break and eventually got the equaliser when Thomas Long got the final touch to a scramble in the box to find the back of the net. Team efforts and both teams and will be happy with a share of the spoils. Welcome back Ann Molloy in the Fintown kitchen with the soup and refreshments, great to see you back.
Area 3
Dunlewey Celtic 2 v 1 Strand Rovers
Strand started the game the stronger creating a few chances but nothing too troubling for the Dunlewey backline. Dunlewey began to come back into the game and created a couple of chances of their own as the half progressed. Dunlewey took the lead when the ball ricocheted back off the bar to be scrambled into the Strand goal. Dunlewey pressed on and scored again when a goal-line scramble came to the edge of the box, the ball was floated back in and Keith Sweeney fired home from close range. Strand came out pushing hard in the second-half to get back into the game and but for a few vital saves from the Dunlewey keeper they could have pulled a goal back. Eventually Strand broke through when they scored from a corner with a header from inside the area. Dunlewey held off as Strand threw the kitchen sink trying to get an equaliser. Dunlewey Celtic were victorious on the day and kept the three points in Glentornan Park.
Glenea United Reserves 4 v 2 Keadue Rovers Reserves
In fine conditions Glenea Reserves got their first win of the season in a hard-fought victory over Keadue. The game started slowly but as the half progressed it was the away side that threatened to open the scoring with Oran Craig in the home goals making a number of good saves from Jack Boyle, Jordan Doogan & Liam Boyle. On 37 minutes Glenea took the lead when after good interplay between Calvin Murray and John Mc Fadden, saw Calvin Murray’s low strike, with the aid of a deflection, deceive the away keeper and find the net. Keadue equalised on the stroke of half-time when Liam Boyle got clear of the home defence, his initial effort was well saved but he picked up the rebound clipped the ball home past the defenders on the line. In the 2nd half Keadue started well and created a couple of half chances. On 55 minutes an Aaron Bowyer through ball found John Mc Fadden and his shot from the edge of the box flew into the corner. Keadue pushed hard for an equaliser but were kept at bay by the home defence and on 70 minutes Calvin Murray picked up a loose ball and he chipped the keeper to extend Ghenea’s lead. Keadue continued to look to pull a goal back but the home side were looking dangerous on the break and were only denied
by a number of good saves from Yasolav the visiting keeper. Keadue eventually pulled a goal back on 85 minutes when, after good work from Ultan Boyle, his cross was headed home by Liam Boyle. Almost straight away Glenea regained their two-goal lead when Conor Coyle’s cross was drilled home by john Mc Fadden. Best for Glenea were Conor Coyle &Neil Mc Geever while Matthew Comiskey & Liam Boyle impressed for Keadue. Referee: Sean Ferry
Area 4
Cappry Rovers Reserves 1 v 0 Ballybofey United Reserves
This game was played in great conditions in Cappry Park. Cappry started the game well and pressed early to get a goal. They came close when Ronan Carlin hit the inside of the post from outside the box. Ballybofey were defensive in the first-half and were trying to catch Cappry on the break. Cappry started the 2nd half well and got the breakthrough when Karl Mc Glynn headed home a Dàire Quigley cross. The home side kept pressing to get a 2nd and had several golden chances to do so but Ronan Carlin, Karl Mc Glynn and Jamie Murray all missed. Ballybofey were dangerous on the break and had a few long-range efforts. Cappry almost paid the price when they conceded a penalty in the last minute but Ballybofey failed to convert it.
Drumoghill F.C. Reserves 3 v 4 Oldtown Celtic
Drumoghill were unlucky as they fought well against a strong Oldtown team. Oldtown were 2-0 up in the first 30 minutes but Karol Mc Ginley and Liam O’ Donnell got a goal each before half time to level the scoreline. Oldtown made it 3-2 before Oran Donnelly scored to bring them level again. Oldtown scored with ten minutes to leave with the points
Kildrum Tigers Reserves 5 v 2 Castlefin Celtic Reserves
Kildrum took the lead when Frank Mc Brearty scored a penalty after Michael Devine was fouled in the box. The Tigers doubled their lead when CJ Clarke headed home from a Mc Brearty free kick. It was three by half time when Devine scored at the near post from a corner. Both teams got two goals in the 2nd half-half, Kildrum got their fourth goal when a cross from Devine came off Mc Nulty at the far post and just about got over the line. Castlefin got a goal back with a good header. Kildrum got their fifth from a James Mc Nulty header from the edge of the box. Castlefin rounded off the scoring when Reece Gallagher beat a couple of defenders and slide the ball past the keeper.

Bonagee United 2 v 1 St. Catherines
This was an entertaining encounter played at Dry Arch Park on Sunday afternoon. Newly promoted St. Catherines were the visitors for a match that produced three first-half goals that weren’t to be added to. Peter Carr got both of the Bonagee goals while St. Catherines’ sole reply came from Josh Maxwell. In all honesty the visitors will possibly have been disappointed that they didn’t leave with a point as they dominated large spells, especially in the second-half. Bonagee had done enough in the first-half however and while a draw might have been a fair result, that’s football and the three points will show on the Bonagee Line in the first League Table of the new season. Well done to both teams for producing a great match. Referee: Liam Mc Laughlin.
Cappry Rovers 2 v 2 Rathmullan Celtic
(No Report Submitted)
Castlefin Celtic 3 v 3 Kilmacrennan Celtic
Castlefin and Kilmacrennan played out an entertaining six goal thriller in Castlefin. The hosts took a deserved lead, Emmett White slotting in at the back post from a Daryl Porter cross. Castlefin continued to create chances however the visitors hit back, Paul Bradley rifled into the bottom corner to equalise. The home side took the lead again, Jordan Duffy converting a penalty. In the space of 15 minutes Kilmacrennan went ahead, Chris Waddle slotted in from close range and a Waddle penalty put the visitors ahead. In the second half Castlefin applied all the pressure, creating numerous chances. They finally drew level when Emmett White converted a penalty with ten minutes remaining.
Fanad United 2 v 2 Kildrum Tigers
Fanad United and Kildrum Tigers played out a highly entertaining 2-2 draw. Played in ideal conditions, the game started at a frantic pace. On ten minutes, following good work from Keelin Mc Elwaine and Oisin Langan, the ball fell to Eddie O’Reilly but his shot was easily saved by Kildrum keeper Chris O’Donnell. Three minutes later Kildrum missed a good chance to take the lead but Brian Breslin shot wide when well placed. It was Fanad who took the lead in the 20th minute. Eddie O’Reilly seen his shot brilliantly blocked on the line but Eoin Logue was alert to fire home the rebound. Kildrum started to apply pressure and got an equaliser on 40 minutes. Brian Breslin out-paced the Fanad defence and when he squared the ball James Connolly was on hand to score from close range. Just before half time Brian Breslin forced Fanad keeper Darren Nash into a fine save. In the 1st minute of the second half, Eoin Logue seen his speculative shot from 25 yards go just over the bar. Kildrum then took the lead on 50 minutes. After a free kick into the box was flicked on, Brian Breslin was quickest to react to fire low into the bottom corner. Two minutes later, a well hit Matty Crossan from 30 yards forced Darren Nash into an excellent full length save. Fanad started to get a bit of momentum going and were rewarded with an equaliser in the 70 minute. When Paddy Mc Ginley was fouled 25 yards out, Eddie O’Reilly stepped up and hit a superb curling shot into the top corner. The final 20 minutes were hectic without either team creating many chances. Referee: Mick Lagan
Glenea United 3 v 1 Keadue Rovers
Glenea hosted Keadue for their first league game of the season. The home side settled well and were awarded a free-kick in the 5th minute just outside the box. Shane Coll’s effort was tipped over the bar by Ben Boyle and from the resulting corner Calvin Murray reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box to put Glenea one up. Keadue had a good chance of their own in the 15th minute but Mark Forker’s threatening cross found nobody in the box to get on the end of it. Glenea almost made it two shortly after that when Ciaran Mc Geady got onto a through ball and with his pace he found himself one on one with the keeper, his well-placed shot came back off the post and the incoming Lee O‘ Brien was unable to adjust his feet and his shot went over the bar. Keadue found their equaliser in the 26th minute when Peter Mc Gee found space and finished well. Glenea had the ball in the net from the restart but Alastair Gourley deemed it to be offside and there were very few protests from the home support or players. Lee O’ Brien had a good chance with a header when he beat the offside trap but he saw his effort pass the post. The second-half started off with the visitors having a decent spell and Mark Forker’s run from midfield left him in a good position for a shot on goal but it failed to trouble Joe Coll. Glenea got their second on the 61st minute when the impressive Mc Geady weaved through the opposition box and once he got onto his right foot he finished well into the bottom corner. John Mc Fadden was a second-half substitute for Calvin Murray and his energy and work rate was causing the visitors problems. He soon found himself through on goal and coming in from the right wing and kept his composure to place the ball into the far corner.
Another substitute Conor Coyle had a well struck effort hit the post on the 82nd minute but it was a
matter of seeing the game out at this stage and despite Keadue’s best efforts Glenea held on an
defended well. Keadue had one last attempt at goal but Joe Coll continuing his good form from last season saved well . A good start for Glenea with Ciaran Mc Geady and Marty Maguire the stand out performers on the day . Referee: Alastair Gourley .

Convoy Arsenal 0 v 6 Swilly Rovers
Convoy Arsenal welcomed Swilly Rovers to Orchard Park for the opening game of the new season. The away side dominated for much of the match. Rovers opened the scoring with Ciaran Kelly crossing in from the left wing for Kyle Black to score. Black got his second of the match this time with Oisin Coyle providing the cross from the right wing. Convoy’s best chance of the first half was a James Wilson shot from distance that was tapped over the bar by Barry Gallagher. Kenan Gibson saved a few shots at the start of the second half for Convoy with Rovers keeping the pressure on and Conor Gormley came close with a thundering shot from distance crashing off the bar before Tyler Durning scored followed by a third of the match for Kyle Black. A deflection from a cross resulted in an own goal for the fifth and Ian Ward headed home the last goal of the match for Rovers. Best for Swilly Rovers was Kyle Black.

Gweedore Celtic 2 v 3 Letterkenny Rovers
An entertaining game between Gweedore and Letterkenny was decided by a goal in injury time courtesy of Patrik Gahir who capped off a fine performance for Rovers with the winning goal. Gweedore were much the better team in the opening twenty minutes and took the lead on ten minutes through Cian Mc Bride who scored after being put through by Pauric Winters. Letterkenny upped their game before half-time and put the Celtic defence under sustained pressure. Twice they created openings but the home net minder, Joe Mc Gee, brought off two fine saves to deny them an equaliser. They did manage to pull a goal back in the thirty fifth minute when a David O’ Donnell shot was not dealt with by the home rearguard and Darragh Morrisson pounced to fire home from six yards. Five minutes later Jack Dwyer extended their lead when he shot home from twenty yards to leave Rovers two one ahead at the interval.
The second half was barely a minute old when Cian Mc Bride broke through the Rovers defence to score his second goal for Na Ceiltigh. The game swung from end to end with both defences refusing to yield an inch to their opponents. Chris Malseed and Gareth Temple for the away team were outstanding in denying Gweedore chances while Mc Gee in goals and Colin Mc Nichols for the home team were superb in limiting chances for Letterkenny. With time running out and Letterkenny gaining superiority in the middle of the field the young home team were hanging on for a vital point. They could have snatched a winner when substitute Colin Ferry sprinted past the defence and with only the keeper to beat he blazed his shot over the bar. Deep in injury time the points were secured when Gareth Temple played Patrik Gahir in and with the home defence appealing for offside he slid the ball calmly into the corner of the net.
Na Ceiltigh were well served by Cian Mc Bride, Colin Mc Nichols and Joe Mc Gee whilst Rovers had a man -of-match performance from Patrik Gahir. Referee: Seimi Ferry
Kerrykeel ’71 F.C. 0 v 3 Letterbarrow Celtic
The result will flatter the away side as this was a very competitive game. It was always going to be tough going for the home side with so many men missing but they put up a gallant display. In truth, they should have been two up midway through the first half but the Letterbarrow keeper made two fine stops to deny Charlie Mc Ateer. Letterbarrow, against the run of play, went in front on the stroke of half-time when Kevin Mc Brearty fired home. The ‘71 came out fighting for the second half and should have been level on 60 minutes but Bernard Martin just couldn’t find the net from close range. Letterbarrow’s strength in depth told late on when they netted twice in the final ten minutes. Credit to the ‘71 for being able to field today with both reserves and seniors with Fanad Gaels in championship action. Kevin Loughrey, Callum Mc Ateer and Shane Friel were best for the home side. M Brearty and Winters were best for Letterbarrow.

Ballybofey United 6 v 0 Whitestrand United
Ballybofey United, relegated last term, sent out a message of intent at Dreenan on Sunday when they overcame the Mc Garvey Park men to get the new season off to the best possible start. An almost ideal mix of youth and experience were fielded by United Manager Niall Mc Closkey and they blended well to secure three vital early-season points. They went in front on ten minutes when Adam Mc Cullagh’s cross found Damien Glackin who’s effort struck the crossbar but was dispatched to the net by the alert mark Griffin. Jude Patton almost extended their lead on ten minutes after he was set-up by Daithí Mc Mahon but his effort missed the target. The second soon arrived however as a sublime assist from Michael Lafferty sent Glackin through one-on-one with the visiting keeper and there was only ever likely to be one outcome as the perennial hitman opened his season’s account. He added his second and Ballybofey’s third on the half-hour mark when Mark Griffin flicked Ciarán Bonner’s long clearance into his path and he made no mistake. As the half-time whistle loomed Mc Mahon and Paul Kelly combined well to feed Mc Cullagh who ran at the Whitestrand defence before drawing them ragged and setting up Glackin to complete his hat-trick with the simplest of tap-ins. 4-0 at the break. Ballybofey started the second-half as they finished the first, well in control. Colin Carlin and Oran Gallen combined to win a corner-kick which Michael Lafferty floated into the visitor’s box. Paul Kelly headed home his side’s fifth. Kelly added another on fifty-five minutes when he was set-up by Glackin who had been found by the hard-working Colin Carlin. Ballybofey could and probably should have added a few more goals but that is how it ended at Dreenan. Well done to Whitestrand who never lay down but the day belonged to the home side who produced a great team performance highlighted by the youthful Mc Mahon and Mc Cullagh and the ever reliable Glackin. Referee: Barry Hunter
Cranford United 6 v 0 Lifford Celtic
\Cranford ran out comfortable winners to start the season off on a high. Cranford came out of the blocks fast and took the lead after 10 minutes. After great play down the left wing the ball reached Keelan Mc Groddy who squared the ball for Kevin Doherty who tapped it home. Cranford dominated the half with Mc Groddy and Kevin Doherty constant threats up front. Cranford went in at half time 4-0 courtesy of further goals from Keelan Mc Groddy and a Chris Carr penalty. The second half was much the same story and Cranford added two further goals from Kevin Doherty who completed his hat-trick on his return.
Curragh Athletic 0 v 2 Lagan Harps
Curragh faced Lagan in the opening game of the season. In a tight opening 20 minutes JP Malley found himself one-on-one with the keeper but he shot narrowly wide. Lagan went one up in the 38th minute when a free-kick was followed up by Kenny Doran. The second-half was a tight affair with few chaces for either side. Lagan sealed the victory with a goal on 80 minutes from Dean Murray. Best for Lagan : Kenny Doran . Best for Curragh: Oisin Mc Cool.
Deele Harps 3 v 5 Gweedore United
Deele hosted Gweedore United in their season opener at Deele College. There was a sombre start as a minute’s silence was observed for the late Harps’ Club Secretary Marty Duffy. The game had a lively start as both teams started on the front foot but it was the away team who took the lead on 15 minutes when Ciaran McFadden finished well coming in from the left. Gweedore doubled their lead on 25 minutes with Stephen Doyle Mc Fadden heading home unchallenged. Deele made a few adjustments at half time and pulled one back when debutant Scott Macbeth broke down the left, cut inside, and curled home to the top corner. On 60 minutes Gweedore were awarded a penalty which Stephen Doyle Mc Fadden squeezed past the unlucky David Arthur. Scott Macbeth added his second of the afternoon with some fine individual skill, beating four men, before finishing well on 65 minutes to make it 2-3. Gweedore extended their lead again on 70 minutes when a defensive lapse presented Stephen Doyle Mc Fadden with a chance which he couldn’t miss. Gweedore added a fifth on 80 minutes but Deele kept going and a Sean O’ Reilly pass sent young Scott Macbeth free to grab a deserved third to complete his hat-trick and that’s how it ended. Stephen Doyle Mc Fadden was best for Gweedore with debutant Scott Macbeth starring for Deele.
Drumoghill F.C. 2 v 1 Dunkineely Celtic
Drumoghill got their league campaign off to the perfect start with this 2-1 victory over Dunkineely Celtic, but they had to do it the hard way after coming from behind to secure all three points. Christopher O’ Donnell was the match winner when he was in the right place at the right time to hammer home at the far post in the 82nd minute to give his side a deserved victory. Dylan Mc Elhinney had earlier equalised after Adrian Nesbitt had put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot early in the second half. Drumoghill deserved the win after a dominant second half and should have won by a much greater margin after creating numerous gilt-edged openings. The first half was an even affair with both defences on top. Barry Murray and Jordan Boyle were solid at the back for the visitor, with Liam O’ Donnell and Conor Doohan unable to get much by way of clear openings. The second half was a much more open affair and Drumoghill had several opportunities to open the scoring. Lee Smyth was the driving force in midfield and his tenacity in driving forward created an opening for Doohan on 49 minutes but his effort was blocked at point blank range by Jamie Kelly in goals for Dunkineely. Moments later Christopher O’Donnell saw a header shave the post and Kealan Collier had another effort blocked on the line. The home side were now dominant and it seemed only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken. Moments later it did get broken but it was the visitors that broke it after winning possession in midfield through Ross Conneely and he found Jonathan Back who was bundled to the ground inside the penalty area by Paul Clarke. The referee pointed to the spot and up stepped Nesbitt to send Duffy the wrong way and it was 1-0 to the visitors. The home side appeared shell shocked and it took a double substitution by Jockey Wilson to turn the game. He sent on Dylan Mc Elhinney and the big defender found the space needed inside the six-yard box following a James Gillen free kick, Mc Elhinney scored with his first touch. Drumoghill regained their dominance and almost scored again through a Doohan header that was narrowly wide. The home side were not going to be denied and the winner came from Kieran Devenney’s left wing corner was partially cleared as far as O’Donnell and his left footed strike was clean enough to find the net and secure the points for The Reds.
