Two young men from Creeslough are sharing supports and advice for their home community in the wake of the fatal explosion earlier this month.
Stephen Doak and Aidan Hunter are encouraging people to talk about their trauma and collective grief.
Stephen and Aidan were both at the scene on the day of the explosion, and say they are still trying to comprehend the tragedy that struck their community and took the lives of ten people.
The duo dedicated the latest episode of their podcast ‘Soul Brew’ to an interview with Psychotherapist Dr Michelle Murphy.
Together they discuss the collective grief, the loss of a sense of safety and how to reach out to help others affected by the events.
Dr. Murphy gave some reassurance to the lads about how they feel, and what they can do to help themselves recover and help others in the community and further afield deal with a tragic event of this scale. Cognitive fatigue, the biopsychosocial model of health, and the importance of looking within one’s self to “help build ourselves back up piece by piece” and together to build the community again are all discussed.

The podcast series was set up as create a community that can share thoughts, ideas, love, compassion, positivity, and realism in a safe non-judgemental environment. Aidan and Stephen want to do this while promoting discussions about the meaning and purpose of life, mental health, physical health, and topics such as happiness, stoicism, social media, and milestones of life e.g., college.
