Pat’s 9,000,000 steps to a healthier life!

He may be gone from public office but former Donegal politician Pat the Cope Gallagher has never looked fitter.

And if you check the 74-year-old’s Apple watch you’ll see the reason why.

For the past three years the former Fianna Fail stalwart has completed a dedicated walk each and every day.

The walks started on December 27th, 2019 and are still continuing.

During that time Pat’s Apple watch shows that he completed a staggering 9,000,000 steps or 6,000 kms averaging 5.4kms each day.

Good walking clothing and determination are what Pat puts his continued walking routine down to.

Most of his daily walks have taken place along the riverbank, Cope Mountain Walk and around Dungloe but he has also stepped out in Spain and Birmingham.

He is even pictured doing a few laps around a cruise ship!

Pat told friends on Facebook “I braved the elements each day irrespective of gale, rain, hail, frost, snow and of course the sun.

“It’s only a matter of wearing wet or dry gear which is dictated by the weather.

“I can only recommend a walk, be it short or long as it’s important for one’s physical and mental health.

“Take it up in 2023 and you don’t have to do 5K every day. You will find the benefits. Happy 2023.”
