Donegal people have been left scratching their heads at the latest list of Ireland’s best beaches.
The Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards 2023, to be published tomorrow, has zero Donegal beaches in the Top 10.
The list, which is based on reader recommendations, has awarded the number one spot to Keem Bay on Achill Island, now world-famous as location of ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.
Despite Donegal having the longest coastline in Ireland and the most Blue Flag beaches, none of the county’s hundreds of beaches are on the list previewed by travel writer Pól Ó Conghaile today.

Twitter users have commented on how surprised they were by the results.
One user, Tommy O’Brien, wrote: “Jaysus this can’t be right…not one beach from Donegal and the county having some of the absolute glorious beaches that are world renown…something really amiss here.”
The rest of the Reader Travel Award winners will be revealed tomorrow in Irish Independent’s Weekend Magazine, so it’s hoped that local tourism businesses and locations may get some recognition in other categories.
