Gardaí advise parents ahead of popular teenage disco tonight

Parents are being asked to play their part in ensuring their children safely celebrate a youth disco later tonight (Friday).

Several hundred young people from around the Donegal region are expected to attend a teenage disco in Letterkenny this Friday night and Gardaí say they will be on patrol.

A Garda statement read: “We can all do our bit to ensure that the teens will have a good night and more importantly that they have a safe one!”

The advice for parents is to talk to teens in relation to the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

  • Make sure they have travel arrangements sorted before they leave home and that you are aware of what their arrangements are.
  • Know who your teen will be attending the disco with and get a contact number for them if possible also.
  • Please ensure that your teen will only have enough money with them for the purposes of travel, entry to the club and soft drinks! Unfortunately temptation is out there and peer pressure also plays a part.
  • Advise your teen to stay with their friends and not to walk alone on the streets. Also advise them not to leave their belongings or beverage unattended.

“The contact number for Letterkenny Garda Station is 074-9167100. Please ensure that your teen has this number saved on their phone and that their phone is well charged. Gardaí will be on patrol and we want the young people attending the event to know that they can approach us on the street or call us should they need our assistance.”
