Donegal were beaten by All-Ireland and League Champions Meath in their second game of the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 1.

Donegal 0-5 Meath 1-7

Maxi Curran’s side were level at half-time in a low scoring game, but Mary Kate Lynch’s point attempt from far out crept into the net and gave Meath a massive boost in what was a tight game for the majority.

Susanne White opened the scoring for the home side in O’Donnell Park, but persistence from Niamh O’Sullivan saw her level the game after six minutes.

Glenfin’s Katie Long scored a great point to pt Donegal ahead again but they were soon pegged back by Niamh Gallogly.

A White free on 23 minutes had Donegal ahead for the third and last time in the game, but Stacey Grime’s free saw the two teams go in 0-3 apiece at half-time.

Another Grimes free and an O’Sullivan point gave the All-Ireland Champions a nice cushion and Ciara McGarvey pointed well and reduced the deficit.

But a long point effort from Mary Kate Lynch ended up catching Aoife McColgan out and gave Meath a vital goal and a four point lead.

White pointed again from a free but a Niamh Byrne goal chance which she smartly opted for a point and a score from Ailbhe Leahy in added time confirmed the victory for the visitors by 1-7 to 0-5.

Donegal: Aoife McColgan; Jodie McFadden, Evelyn McGinley, Emer Gallagher, Amy Boyle Carr, Katie Dowds, Tara Hegarty, Shelly Twohig, Roisin Rodgers, Saskia Boyle, Katie Long (0-1), Laoise Ryan, Susanne White (0-3,1f), Shannon McGroddy, Ciara McGarvey (0-1)
