A total of 31 social houses and a further 14 apartments are to be built in Letterkenny in the coming months.

Details of the two schemes, at Kilmacrennan Road and Killylastin, were given at the latest meeting of the Letterkenny/Milford Municipal Authority.

It followed a question by Councillor Gerry McMonagle.

He asked when will the building of the Social Houses planned for Letterkenny begin and at what sites and how many houses/apartments will be built and what is the timeframe for delivery of these units?

He was informed that Donegal County Council currently have Part 8 Planning approval for two sites in Letterkenny.

The first, at Oran Hill, Kilmacrennan Road, Letterkenny provides for 34 No housing units (26 Houses/8 Apartments). Subject to Departmental approval, the Project will go to tender in March/April 2023. It is anticipated Contractor appointment will be finalised in Q3 2023. The Construction period will be 18 months.

The second project at Killylastin, Letterkenny provides for 11 No housing units (5 Houses / 6 Apartments) and subject to Departmental approval is currently scheduled to proceed to tender in March 2023. It is anticipated contractor appointment will be finalised in Q3 2023. The Construction period is expected to be circa 14 months.

In addition to the Construction Projects above the council is actively progressing submissions of turnkey proposals with a potential of delivering 250 houses.

A spokesperson added “These proposals are at varying stages of progression, for example one proposal has obtained planning permission; a further proposal is currently in planning and a number of proposals are at pre-planning stage.

“Due to the competitive nature of this tendering process, members will be advised of specific proposal details at final approvals stage.”
