A group of volunteers in Donegal have formed an Application Support Team to help defective concrete block homeowners seeking redress.
Six volunteers are actively helping homeowners with their application forms.
The community-based initiative was formed from the Redress Focus Groups initiative, started by local campaigners Roisín Gallagher, Joy Beard, Brenda Tierney Joyce and Claire McDaid. Together, they developed practical and mental health supports for property owners and young people.
The Redress Focus Groups have over 100 volunteers now actively involved in delving in to 15 major issues over 15 different focus groups. These are homeowner led initiatives independent of Donegal County Council or any other campaign groups.
“We are making change happen together,” a spokesperson said.
A public meeting is being held this Thursday 2nd March at 7pm in the An Grianan Hotel Burt for people to engage with the focus groups or volunteer support. Everyone is welcome. It’s also a gathering for all property owners to come together, chat and support each other and maybe sign up for any of the 15 focus groups or the Application Support Team if they wish.
The spokesperson said: “We would encourage all property owners to come along on Thursday to the public meeting regardless of volunteering or not. This is an opportunity to come together and give support and find support with others going through the same thing. It will be good the hear the updates from the groups and be informed on what is happening.”
The Application Support Team are now available to help homeowners of defective blocks with application forms.
The number is 087 744 8623. Line is open between 10am and 4pm Monday to Thursday. If your call is unanswered please leave your name and number and a Volunteer will return your call.
