Never-say-die Cockhill Celtic overcome St Mochta’s in FAI Senior Cup Preliminary Round

Never-say-die Cockhill Celtic show true grit when they came from behind to beat St Mochta’s in the FAI Senior Cup Preliminary Round this afternoon.

The Buncrana side found themselves 0-2 behind at the break and a huge second half task.

Adam McLaughlin halved the deficit for the home side to make it 2-1 but the visitors struck again to put them 3-1 in front and what appeared to be game over.

However, Cockhill’s McLaughlin had other idea.

He netted twice to put the sides level at 3-3 to send the game into extra time.

Cockhill went in front for the first time in the game when Garbhan Friel struck to make it 4-3 before Mochta’s replied to put things all square again.

And just when it looked like the game was heading to deadlock Friel struck again in the 121st minute of the game to send the home crowd wild.

It was nothing less than Cockhill deserved after a game in which any lesser team would have folded.
