Ireland have been knocked from their first-ever World Cup.
Milford’s Amber Barrett was sent on as a second half sub in a bid to try and snatch a goal as Ireland fell 2-1 to Canada in their second of three group games today.
Barrett, hoping to repeat her antics in the qualifying rounds, failed to grab an equaliser as Canada closed ranks on Vera Pauw’s side.
The defeat means Ireland are still on zero points after two games, with Canada on four points with one group game to play.
Australia (three points) and Nigeria (one point) play in their second group tie tomorrow, meaning no matter what happens in that clash, Ireland will not be able to overtake their group rivals on the final matchday and advance to the knockout stage.
Ireland captain Katie McCabe goal put Ireland ahead from a corner and the Girls in Green did so well in the first half only for Canada to level through an OG.
Canada went ahead din the second half and began to control the game as Ireland tried desparately to snatch an equaliaser.
