The parents of young crash victim Connor Mc Ginley shared a heartbreaking tribute to their son as he is laid to rest in his hometown of Milford.
Nineteen-year-old Connor was described as a legend by his loving parents at this funeral mass today.
“Connor, we will miss your smile that lit up every room and person,” said a message from Ennis and Noelle, read aloud by Fr Stephen Gorman.
“We love you, our brown-eyed boy.”
Fr Gorman told mourners at St Peter’s Church that today was the hardest day for Noelle and Ennis.
“No parent expects to bury their child, no matter what the age.”
Connor lost his life on Saturday last when the car he was driving struck a pole outside the village of Kerrykeel. The passenger of the car, Jaden, was welcomed to today’s funeral and is said to be making a good recovery.
“Connor was heading towards the prime of his life with the world at his feet, he touched so many lives in so many positive ways in those short 19 years,” said Fr Gorman.
Connor’s hobbies and passions were represented at the altar. The mementoes included a photo, to symbolise his life, a piece of art, a Liverpool scarf and his headphones and speaker.
A keen DJ, known as DJ Curly, Connor took up music mixing at just four years of age. He happily managed the tunes for all of his friends’ 18th birthdays.
He was also interested in the outdoors and was just six weeks short of completing a Horticulture diploma.
Connor loved Liverpool FC from the day he was born, Fr Gorman told mourners. He also loved indoor athletics, Jiu Jitsu and was a member of Milford Athletic Club and Milford Utd.
“Connor was a kindhearted and gentle soul,” Fr Gorman said. He said there were no words to explain the grief, the sadness and the sense of loss that his family and friends feel this day, but told them to be grateful for who Connor was and what he meant to everyone who loved him and appreciated him.
“The fact that his life, though short, was a good and happy life and the memories of Connor are always going to be good and warm,” Fr Gorman said.
Connor was buried afterwards in Milford Cemetery.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate all circumstances around the tragic collision on the R246 between Kerrykeel and Milford at 3:30 am on Saturday 5th August.
