A mother and son team were the proud winners of a Sustainable Farmer Award this week at the Tullamore Show.
Margaret Stevenson and her son Jack from Castlefin won the Suckler to Weanling Award on Sunday.
Minister Charlie McConalogue T.D presented the awards, which honour top performing sustainable beef and sheep farmers.
The awards, held for the first time this year, are the result of a partnership between the FBD National Livestock Show, Bord Bia, Teagasc and the Irish Farmers Journal.
Commenting on the awards, Show Livestock Chairman, Michael Dolan said: “The award winners highlight the good work being done on farms to implement sustainable practices. They provide useful pointers for other farmers as they work to improve the sustainability of their enterprise.”
The awards recognise the achievements of winning farms across five farming systems: suckler calf to weanling/store; suckler to beef; dairy calf to beef; beef finisher; and lamb producer.
