Rescue services were in action on Errigal mountain yesterday after a hiker suffered a leg injury.

The call-out was issued on Sunday morning after a person sustained a lower leg injury at the summit.

Donegal Mountain Rescue volunteers and paramedics were already on the scene supporting a charity event and were in a good position to assist the casualty and stabilise their injury.

Rescue 118 was called to the mountain and arrived at noon. The person was successfully airlifted off the mountain and was transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital.

This was the fourth call-out of the week for the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.

DMRT provides an emergency response, remote environment and extreme terrain search and rescue service for the County of Donegal. The team is comprised completely of volunteers who are on 24 hour call, 365 days of the year. The team is tasked by An Garda Síochána, so if there is an emergency please call 112 or 999 directly. This is to ensure an appropriate coordinated response.
