Jim McGuinness has been named as the new Donegal GAA senior team manager.
The Glenties man was ratified at this evening’s hastily arranged county board meeting at Donegal GAA headquarters in Convoy.
The-50 year old is joined by both Neil McGee and Colm McFadden in his backroom team.
The deal is for three years with an option of a fourth year.
Luke Barrett will also join the backroom team.
The former Donegal midfielder was not at the meeting this evening.
McGuinness is to take over from the outgoing Aidan O’Rourke who stepped in earlier this season following the sudden departure of Paddy Carr.
The man who famously guided Donegal to their last All-Ireland success in 2012 was on many people’s wish-list as a future manager.
A spokesperson for the Donegal GAA said: “Donegal GAA is delighted to announce the appointment of Jim McGuinness as Senior Football team manager, following a meeting of Donegal County Committee. This is an exciting time for all Donegal GAA Supporters and Donegal people at home and abroad.
“CLG Dhún na nGall wish Jim, his backroom team, and the players every success for the future. The term will be for three years with an option for a fourth.”
A five person committee which included Donegal GAA legends Anthony Molloy and Martin McHugh were put in place to help find a new manager.
It is understood that committee met with McGuinness in recent days and he showed a willingness to come back to the managerial fold.
