Here’s what’s going on in the Dunkineely, Bruckless and Killaghtee areas this week.
Beach Clean
Our next clean will be at 1pm on 11th May at Bunlacky Shore, down past Dunkineely Community Centre.
Equipment will be supplied. We suggest you bring sensible shoes, water, a coat and suntan cream. To get to Bunlacky Shore, turn down towards the coast at the Dunkineely Community Centre, keeping the main entrance to your right.
Community Garden
Would you like to see a Community Garden at Bruckless Park, where we can grow vegetables and flowers? We need your support to make this happen. Community gardens offer a place of peace and tranquility for those in the area, as well as a place for learning and growing. Send us your thoughts to dunkineelycommunity@gmail.com or take part in our Facebook survey on Dunkineely Talk.
Treasure Trail
Join in the 5k Family Treasure Trail on Saturday 25th May at 10am. Beginning at the Methodist Church in Dunkineely, you will solve clues working in teams of two or more. Solve the final clue and be rewarded with treasure. Refreshments afterwards at the church carpark. Donations gratefully received.

100 to Home: Thank everyone for their overwhelming support. 42 cyclists went 100km for the club! It has been truly remarkable, huge thanks from the club. The event became a poignant tribute to the late Gael, Jack Furey. In light of the wake’s proximity to Páirc Naomh Ultan, the club decided to postpone the scheduled walk for ‘100 To Home’ at the walking track for our Bord Na nÓg and LGFA board. A new date will be announced in due course.
Jack Furey
The death has occurred of Jack Furey, Brenter, Dunkineely, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by his parents John and Jane, his siblings, Nan, Caroline, Eileen, Kathleen and Bobby. Sadly missed by his loving Wife Nan, his Sons Sean (Maureen), Adrian (Monica), Paul (Debra), Daughters Donna (Sean), Karen (John), Jacqueline (Michael), Janet (John) and his 19 adoring grandchildren, his extended family, great neighbours and friends.
A representative of Naomh Ultan commented “Jack was not only a prominent referee in the county but also deeply rooted with our club, serving as chairman for a number of years. His absence will be keenly felt by all who knew him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam”.
