Two events will take place in the seaside town of Bundoran as part of the national Culture Night 2023 activities.

Culture Night activities will be taking place at venues across the country on the evening of Friday September 22nd – a national moment to celebrate culture, creativity and the arts.

As part of the Bundoran contribution to events, the community will present “Footsteps of the Past, Food of the Future” – an historical walking tour will be given by Tir Hugh Tours highlighting the various cultural and historic elements of the town including tourism, music, military and railway.

This tour will conclude at Bundoran Community Centre where the food element of the day will be held which will be a gathering of the various cultures in Bundoran with the sharing of food and traditions for the evening.

Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth said “It’s great for Bundoran to be able to join in with Culture Night this year as we explore the town on the historical walk and then celebrate all the new cultures which have become part of the town over the past few years. We look forward to seeing lots of people taking part on the night.”

Manager of Bundoran Community Centre Danielle Carty added the community of Bundoran has become bigger and wider in the past decade with so many new cultures to explore and to celebrate.

She said “We invite those communities to come to our event to display their cultures and we will demonstrate ours with some Irish culinary fare! Meitheal will be providing traditional Irish music entertainment on the night.

“We had a great turnout last year with Irish, Brazilian, Ukrainian, Slovakia, South American and hopefully we’ll see the same again this year. It’s a great night for socialising, for meeting others in the community, old friends and new! And over food, what more could you ask for?’

The guided historical walk will leave from the Tourist Office, The Bridge, Bundoran at 6pm on Friday 22nd September and that will be followed by the Community Centre event then from 7pm.

Culture Night seeks to actively promote the belief that our rich and varied culture is very much alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives today and every day. 1,700 Culture Night events took place in Ireland in 2022 with engagement from 742,000 people.
