National: Man and woman die in Cavan house fire

A man and woman have died following a house fire in County Cavan in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze which broke out at a house in Ballyjamesduff shortly before 2am.

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s were pronounced dead at the scene.

A garda spokesperson said that their bodies have been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem is due to take place.

The scene of the fire is currently sealed off for a technical examination.
