There is a deep sadness in the Gweedore community following the passing of Daniel (Danny) Blair.
Daniel, of Upper Dore Bunbeg, originally from Glasgow, sadly passed on Sunday.
Just a week previous, he celebrated the launch of his book ‘I, Daniel Blair’. The book is a personal account of his cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis coupled with stories of his journey through life.
Danny and his wife Anne moved from Scotland to Gweedore in 1988. A former coalmine fitter, Danny worked for Donegal County Council and local factories.
It was a standing room only in Amharchlann Gaoth Dobhair on 8th September as hundreds turned out for the ‘I, Daniel Blair’ book launch and to show their appreciation and support for Danny, Anne and their sons Joe and Anthony.
Daniel dedicated the proceeds of the book to Donegal Hospice and Eitiltí & Seirbhísí Ailse Dhún na nGall (Donegal Cancer Flights & Services). Over €20,000 has been raised to benefit the vital local services.

Obituary notice:
The peaceful death has taken place at his home of Daniel (Danny) Blair, Upper Dore, Bunbeg, originally of Glasgow. Predeceased by his parents; Hector & Nellie, brothers; Con, Charlie & John and sister Faye. Sadly missed by his loving wife Anne, sons; Joe & Anthony, brother Owenie, sister Anne Rodden, in-laws Eileen, Kathleen, Noreen, Jackie & Robert and extended family & friends.

His remains will repose at his home from 4pm, Sunday and Monday from 11am. Rosary nightly at 8pm. House private from 10pm to 11am. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 19th, in St. Mary’s Church Derrybeg at 12 noon, with interment afterwards in Magheragallon cemetery.
