The death has taken place of one of Donegal’s best known auctioneers, Charlie Robinson.

He passed away peacefully yesterday at the Donegal Hospice.

The late Mr Robinson founded Charlie Robinson Estate Agents, Auctioneers & Valuers and opened his first premises in Dunfanaghy in June 1997. As business boomed, a second office was located at Port Road, Letterkenny.

Since then, the business has been involved in the vending of numerous residential and commercial developments as well as private and public sales and farms.  In recent years, the business has been taken over by his son, Boyd.

A lover of rugby, he was one of the first committee members of Letterkenny Rugby Club and was a former president.

Mr Robinson, Gortalaban, Letterkenny, also had a love of farming.

As well as assisting in many charity auctions throughout the county, Charlie loved nothing more than running an auction but always brought a sense of fun and fairness to auctions.

He is survived by wife Mary Robinson, son Boyd & wife Orla, son Philip & wife Elaine, son Stephen and wife Laura, daughter Catherine and husband Matthew, daughter Emma and husband Paddy, daughter Anne and partner Karol, daughter Sylvia and husband Eoin, 16 grandchildren and predeceased by grandchild baby Patrick, brothers George and Johnny, twin sister Anne and sisters Patricia and Sylvia.

His wake will take place at the family home in Gortalaban from today Wednesday 22nd November & Thursday 23rd November strictly from 12pm-9pm and strictly family time  from 9am to 12pm each day and on the morning of the funeral.  (one way system in operation from Clareman’s Crossroads to Russell’s piggery)

Funeral service will take place in Dunfanaghy Presbyterian Church at 12pm on Friday 24th November and burial afterwards in Gortlee Cemetery, Letterkenny.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired to Donegal Hospice and the Oncology Unit, Letterkenny University Hospital c/o Paschal Blake Funeral Director, Stoney Arch, New line Rd., Letterkenny.
