Hollywood actress Sarah Jessica Parker rang in the New Year with an age-old Irish custom.

The Sex and the City star spent Christmas with her family at their holiday home in Kilcar, south Donegal.

As 2024 arrived, SJP followed the tradition of opening the back door of her house just before midnight to let the old year out and opening the front door to let the New Year in.

“It’s forever now a tradition in the Broderick-Parker home,” she told her 9 million followers on Instagram.

She added: “A toast to 2023, to the year ahead, and to all of you. Hoping this finds you somewhere that brings you joy as this year comes to a close, with a loved one or a good book or a delicious meal or all of the above. Cheers to all, near and far. SJ X.”

Sarah Jessica Parker, her husband Matthew Broderick and family touched down in Ireland for a Christmas break in rural Donegal before the couple’s January appearance in London’s West End.

Parker and Broderick star in a 10-week run of Plaza Suite at London’s Savoy Theatre until March.
