Gardaí operating in the Letterkenny area detected three intoxicated drivers just the space of a few hours today.
Members of the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit were conducting routine mandatory intoxicant checkpoints.
One driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, after failing a roadside breath test. Gardaí say the driver failed a subsequent breathalyzer check at a Garda station, and was issued with 6 months disqualification from driving, and a fine of €400.
Meanwhile two drivers were caught allegedly under the influence of drugs while behind the wheel – one testing positive for the presence of cannabis, with another testing positive for the presence of cocaine.
Gardaí say both drivers had blood samples taken at a Garda station, to be sent on for further analysis.
They have also re-issued the plea for motorists to never drive while under the influence of drink or drugs.
