An incredible community effort has seen over 1,600 native trees planeted in West Donegal.
The volunteer organisation Love Woodland Northwest organised the event on a site in East Annagry last weekend, amassing 14 volunteers, young and old, to tackle the task of planting the various saplings.
This most recent volunteer effort comes after Love Woodland were able to plant over 1,000 trees on a site in Bundoran last year also.
A variety of native tree variants, including scots pine, downey birch, blackthorn, native cherry, rowan, oak, alder, hazel, silver birch and hawthorn trees were planted as part of the effort.
“We adopted the Miyawaki method planting various mixes of the attached native trees densely (4/5 trees per square metre). We are excited to see results during the coming growing season,” Love Woodland Northwest told Donegal Daily.
“When established this mini woodland will add tremendously to the local biodiversity.”
Love Woodland Northwest also said that they plan to get planting trees yet again in the Autumn.
