Gardaí in Donegal have issued advice for those who are out socialising this St Patrick’s Day bank holiday weekend.
As St Patrick’s Day weekend is often one of the busiest of the year, Gardaí have issued the advice to help keep everyone safe while out and about enjoying the extra day off.
Gardaí are advising anyone who is out and about to not reason with drunk or aggressive people, and to walk away from any potential confrontation and seek help if needed.
“If you choose to use your fists you could wreck the life of your victim but you could also ruin your own future. You could lose your job, your ability to travel and even your freedom, not to mention the distress you would cause your family. Just remember that one punch can have a fatal outcome,” Gardaí said on social media.
They’re also asking the public to be “streetwise” when out, and to have their full evening planned out including arranging transport to and from events beforehand, as well as telling someone your plans and when you expect to be back.
They are also advising to not walk alone in dark places, and to be wary of your surroundings and your own personal property.
