A young man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his father and attempted murder of his mother in County Down last week.
Colin McKee (25), of Canal Street in Newry, appeared in Newry Magistrates Court this morning.
He is charged with the murder of Bobbie McKee (69) and the attempted murder of Yvonne McKee at some point between Tuesday and Thursday last week.
Mr McKee was declared dead and his wife had suffered serious head injuries when police called to their home in Kilkeel last Thursday.
Police officers went to the house on the Newcastle Road after concerns were raised about the couple’s welfare.
Colin McKee appeared in court briefly this morning and only spoke to confirm that he understood the charges against him.
A PSNI detective constable said she could connect the defendant to the charges.
He was remanded in custody to appear again by video link on 17 April.
