A woman killed along with two of her children in a horrific road crash in Co Mayo yesterday was originally from County Donegal.
The woman, who was in her 30s, was killed along with two of her children when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry on the N17 near Claremorris.
She had been living in the West of Ireland with her family.
Gardaí have made contact with relatives of the family.
The woman’s husband is understood to be working abroad at present, but he has been informed of the tragedy and arrangements are being made for him to return to Ireland.
The bodies of the woman and the two children were removed from the scene to Mayo University Hospital last night and post-mortem examinations are expected to be carried out later today.
The fatal incident happened shortly before 2pm yesterday at Castlegar, a short distance from Claremorris.
The driver of the lorry was not injured.
The N17 around Claremorris has reopened to traffic following the conclusion of a forensic examination at the crash site.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses, or motorists with camera footage that might assist the inquiry, to come forward.
The public has also been asked to refrain from sharing images of the crash site on social media.
The deaths of the woman and two children bring to 54 the number of people who have died on Irish roads since the beginning of the year.
