Sinn Féin MEP for Midlands North West, Chris MacManus, made a wide ranging address to the Easter Commemoration in Drumboe on Sunday.
Among many issues he raised, the MEP pledged to continue to fight for the interests of those living in the west and north west of the island.
“The Stormont of the past was a regime built on foundations of discrimination, sectarianism, and inequality. Today we are in a very different place,” he said.
South of the border, he added, a ‘new generation demanding change’ is stepping forward.
“Because this is a tired Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael government, running out of road,” he continued.
“The fact is that housing is out of reach, because this is a government out of touch as many homeowners in Donegal and the wider northwest can attest to, with their continued failure to commit to 100% redress.”
The first opportunity to show that appetite for change, he said, will be June 7th in the local and European elections.
“We must maximise that vote for change. We are running the biggest ever number of candidates in the local elections. Eighteen in Donegal alone. That is a statement of our intent.”
