The public have been warned of potentially severe winds today, as Storm Kathleen has arrived.
A nationwide status yellow weather warning came into effect in the early hours of this morning, with five counties on the west and south coast – Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry and Waterford – all being issued with a status orange wind warning.
Here in Donegal, Met Éireann say that there will be very strong and gusty southerly winds today, with coastal flooding and wave overtopping likely.
There is also the potential for some trees to have fallen on the roads causing difficult travel conditions for motorists.
The county was already ravaged by Storm Isha in January, but Storm Kathleen is not predicted to be as extreme so far.
A mix of showers and sunny spells are expected throughout the day, with highest temperatures between 13 and 15 degrees.
Conditions will remain similar this evening and tonight, with showers turning heavier overnight in gusty winds. Lowest temperatures between 6 and 8 degrees overnight tonight.
