Gardaí in Donegal have paid tribute to Garda Robert McCallion, who died while on duty 15 years ago.
He was investigating the theft of a vehicle on March 26th 2009 in Letterkenny, before he was struck by the stolen vehicle in question as the assailant attempted to leave the scene.
Garda McCallion eventually passed away from his injuries on April 7th, 2009.
A decade and a half on from his tragic passing, An Garda Síochána have paid tribute to him today.
“Today, on the 15th anniversary of his death we remember our very dear friend and colleague, Garda Robert Mc Callion,” Donegal Gardaí posted on social media.
“Garda McCallion (R.I.P.) late of Swinford, Co. Mayo and Letterkenny, Co. Donegal very sadly lost his life in the line of duty. He is never far from the thoughts of all those who had the pleasure of working with him. Our thoughts are also with the McCallion family today.”
“May Robbie’s gentle soul rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
