Ireland’s west coast will get the best view of the partial solar eclipse when the moon passes in front of the sun this evening.
The phenomenon will be visible from Ireland for a short time at around 7.55pm. It’s expected to last around 30 minutes in the north west as the sun sets. Those who wish to witness are advised to seek high ground facing the western horizon.
The advice is DO NOT stare directly at the eclipse. It is important never to look at the sun with the naked eye, but use special solar eclipse glasses, not sunglasses, or create a pinhole projector and face away from the sun.
Meanwhile millions in the US are getting ready for a total eclipse of the sun. This is the United States’ first total solar eclipse since August 2017 and 15 states are in the path of the total eclipse.
