Simon Harris will become the country’s youngest ever Taoiseach today.
The Fine Gael leader, aged 37, will be appointed as Ireland’s 15th Taoiseach.
It comes just a couple of weeks after outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced that he was resigning.
The Dáil will convene at 10.30am this morning to begin the process of electing the country’s new leader.
Mr Harris is on course to win the support of up to 87 TDs with several independent TDs agreeing to back him.
He will then travel to Áras an Uachtaráin to formally be appointed Taoiseach by President Michael D Higgins.
He will then decide what the make-up of his new cabinet will be.
