Letterkenny RFC girls’ rugby going from strength to strength

The girls’ rugby teams at Letterkenny RFC are continuing to grow from strength to strength.

Girls Rugby at Letterkenny now has more than 50 girls from 11 through to 18 playing competitive rugby across the nine counties in both league and cup competitions. We play at u14, u16 and u18 levels.

With the rise of Irish rugby to one of the top ranked countries in the world, we at Letterkenny have seen the same growth in interest at our local club Letterkenny RFC, here we pride ourselves on a community spirit with high standards and respect on and off the pitch. We value our players not based on outstanding talent but on their dedication and team spirit, Rugby is a fantastic sport for all, and there is a position that will suit every ability. We also pride ourselves on inclusivity with girls committed from at least 10 different schools across the county. We currently have 8 players who have represented Ulster Rugby at Inter-Provincial level, with many more to come. Some of our former players such as Mia Alcorn have also represented Ireland.

We are really excited to announce Letterkenny RFC have been approved for the Canterbury Give It A Try initiative, this is a nationwide IRFU 8 week program aimed at introducing 8-14 year old girls to rugby. The program is based on fun activities/games & will safely progress players into contact activities over the course of the sessions.

The total cost is €10 & the first session is Thursday 25th April 7-8pm at Letterkenny RFC. Participants must register first using the link below before attending: https://irfu.sportsmanager.ie/sportlomo/registration/event-registration/index/2775

It would be great if this message can be shared with any potential friends, daughters, grandaughters, nieces etc in that 8-14 age bracket that may like to see what girls rugby’s about. If there are any questions please contact Collie on 086 386 3488.

We are also delighted to announce the unveiling of our new kit for our u18s, proudly sponsored by two local businesses headed up by two inspirational and ambitious Donegal women, who in themselves are setting a great example to our young women in the club. A huge thank you to our main sponsor Crawford Gallagher Solicitors and supporting sponsor Thyme Out Café/Tearooms, supported by BMC Sports all based in Letterkenny.
