Two Donegal community projects have been allocated funds as part of the latest €1 million allocated to cross-border initiatives via the The Shared Island Civic Society Fund.

The latest round of funding from the cross-border initiative will help a total of 35 projects, two of which are based in County Donegal.

County Donegal Railway Restoration CLG and partner, the North West Disability Learning Centre, have been granted €8,000 to go towards their Railway Connections project.

Also, the Inishowen Development Partnership, and partner organisation The Rural Area Partnership in Derry have been allocated €24,000 to fund their project, titled “Networking Community Collaboration for Environmental Stewardship”.

Announcing the grants today, An Tánaiste Michael Martin said in a statement:

“I am delighted to announce funding for 35 new projects, amounting to €1 million. These projects are in a broad range of sectors and themes, including in the areas of climate and the environment, community development, heritage, social enterprise, charitable and voluntary work, and sports.”

“I established the Shared Island Initiative in 2020 with a positive vision for the future of our island – a vision of a more confident, inclusive, and prosperous island for everyone, North and South.”

“The Shared Island Civic Society Fund promotes practical cooperation and interaction in civic society on this island. This latest round of grants will promote North South cooperation and enhance cross-border civic, economic, cultural, and community links across the island.”
