On your bike for free treats at the Letterkenny Farmers Market!

Bike Week is gearing up for a nationwide celebration in May, and Letterkenny is joining the movement with an awesome event planned for Saturday morning, May 18th, at the Farmer’s Market on Port Road.

The aim? To inspire Letterkenny residents to get on a bike and embrace the benefits of active travel.

A growing number of Letterkenny residents have discovered the benefits of cycling around town – it’s quick, convenient, affordable, efficient, economical, eco-friendly, and promotes good health. And in Letterkenny, where traffic congestion and parking shortages can be a headache, cycling provides a practical solution.

Organisers are calling on everyone to travel by bike to join us at the Farmers Market, between 9am and 1pm on Saturday May 18th, for a fabulous community event celebrating the benefits of cycling for all.

Everyone arriving by bike will be rewarded with a free coffee or tea and treat from La Papa, Kitchen and Coffee House, just around the corner from the Farmer’s Market. In addition to delicious cappuccinos and americanos, La Papa will have hot chocolates and baby chinos available for our intrepid younger cyclists.

If your bike could do with a bit of TLC we’ve got you covered! We will have a free drop-in Bike Clinic available from 9am to 1pm at the Farmer’s market. Led by John from @thebikemobile, the clinic aims to ensure bicycles are in top-notch condition for safe and smooth rides. From wheels to brakes, gears to tyre pressure, no detail will go unchecked. Minor adjustments will be made on-site, with clear guidance provided for any repairs that can’t be completed immediately.

“We want to welcome back potential cyclists who may have left their bikes untouched for a while, and assure them that their bikes are ready to hit the road,” says the event organiser, Eddie Bradley of Malin Sustainability.

“Cycling is zero emission transport, so a great way to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and reduce pollution” commented Eilish Kennedy, Sustainability Leader, Tidy Towns Letterkenny.

So jump on your bike on May 18th and join Letterkenny’s Bike Week celebration. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or dusting off your bike for the first time in years, there’s something for everyone at this community event.

This initiative is made possible through the support of Transport for Ireland, Donegal Sports Partnership, Letterkenny Tidy Towns, Letterkenny Farmers Market, and Malin Sustainability.
