Plans are afoot to extend and improve facilities at the Amharclann in Ghaoth Dobhair.
Permission is being sought from Donegal County Council for a new two-storey extension to provide a larger kitchen and restaurant area as well as a sound room and toilets.
Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair officially opened in 1961. Due to economic circumstances and lack of funding, however, the theatre fell into disrepair and subsequently closed in 2007.
With financial backing from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the building underwent huge renovation in the past few years. It officially reopened in March 2017.
