Motorists urged to make sure tyres are up to required standard

Donegal Gardaí are reminding motorists to make sure their tyres are up to the required standard.

Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit conducted road safety checkpoints last night. Thankfully, all tyres checked were roadworthy but a number of drivers were advised that their tyres were approaching the legal minimum tread depth.

“By law, it’s every driver’s responsibility to ensure that their vehicle’s tyres are safe and that all are a minimum 1.6mm in depth,” a garda spokesperson said.

“The tyres are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road and so your safety and the safety of others depends on their condition. Please check your tyres regularly.”
