Seán MacCumhaills GAA Club is hosting an ‘Up for the Match’ event on Friday night ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster between Donegal and Tyrone.
Hosted by pundit and one of Donegal’s greatest forwards, Brendan Devenney, the show will be held in Jackson’s Hotel at 8pm (doors open 7:30) and will feature former legends from both counties. These include our own Frank McGlynn, Tony Boyle and Michael Carr as well as John Lynch and Ciaran McGarvey from ‘the other side’.
The club says a limited number of tickets are still available priced at €15 each with the funds raised going to support their U-15 Feile Hurling Team representing Donegal in Wexford in June.
Glenfin’s Frank McGlynn is a Donegal legend with 172 appearances and an integral part of their 2012 All-Ireland victory and Ulster titles.
The legendary Tony Boyle will also be joining the lineup and we will dive into the Dungloe man’s illustrious career. Tony played for over a decade with Donegal from 1992 to 2001 with memorable moments including his debut in the 1990 Ulster SFC final and scoring in the 1992 All-Ireland SFC Final victory against Dublin. Tony has not only left a mark as a player but also as a coach, managing youth and senior ladies’ teams, and contributing to Donegal’s backroom under John Joe Doherty.
Michael Carr of the Kilcar GAA Club was Man of the Match in the 1983 Ulster Senior Football Championship Final and in the 1980 Donegal Senior Football Championship Final. Married to a MacCumhaills woman, he also played for Ulster in the winning team in the Centenary year and was an exceptionally talented player overall.

John ‘Tar’ Lynch (above), from the Castlederg St Eugene’s club, is a Tyrone hero and played in their first All-Ireland final in 1986 which they lost to Kerry. He has three Ulster championship medals, was an All-Star in 1986 and played for Tyrone from 1980 to 1994, having made his debut against Monaghan in the National League. He also lined out for Red Hughs and won a Donegal Division 1 League medal with the club in 1994.
