The Arranmore RNLI crew assised with a number of medical evacuations over the last few days, including one in the early hours of this morning.
First the Arranmore lifeboat was tasked to assist with an evacuation from the island at 3pm on Saturday, as a patient was transferred from the island to an awaiting ambulance at Burtonport.
They were then taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for further assessment.
Early this morning they were tasked again, when National Ambulance Service volunteers raised the alarm after providing treatment to a casualty who had suffered an injury.
Setting out just after 4am, the casualty was evacuated to Burtonport where an ambulance was able to transport the patient to Letterkenny University Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
Both Coxswains of the Arranmore RNLI, Sean and Jimmy, said “We would like to thank the crew who are ready at a moments’ notice to answer the call to crew the lifeboat. As a twenty four hour emergency service we rely on these volunteers to help save lives. Also, thanks to the ambulance service who provide an excellent service to the people of Arranmore. We would like to wish both casualties a speedy recovery.”
Coxswain and crew on board for Saturday’s evacuation were Sean O’Donnell, Mechanic, Reamon O’Donnell, Aisling Cox, Kieran O’Donnell, Jamie Neeson and Finbar Gallagher.
Meanwhile the crew for the early morning call on Sunday were Coxswain Jimmy Early, mechanic Reamon O’Donnell, Jamie Neeson, Kieran O’Donnell, Finbar Gallagher, Sharon O’Donnell and Brian Proctor.
