On Sunday last Finn Valley hosted the Ulster u9 – u13 Track and Field Championships and it was a brilliant day for the Rosses AC club.

Over 60 juvenile athletes made the journey from the Rosses, coming away with 20+ individual medals and multiple relay and teams medals. Big thanks to all who travelled, especially the parents and coaches who helped out. The juveniles showed they are winning against the best in Ulster and now look forward to the All Irelands in a few weeks.

On Friday last Caoimhe McGonagle and Aileen Logue made the journey to Tullamore to take part in the All Ireland Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships. Caoimhe in the Minor Girls Shot Putt competing for RCS Dungloe ensured she made the top 6 to get 3 extra throws and with one of these got herself to 5th place and within touching distance of the medals. Over at the Minor Girls High Jump Aileen Logue competing for RCS Dungloe jumped 1.45m to also finish 5th.

On Saturday Eva Logue was competing for Pobail Scoil Gaoth Dobhair in the Inter girls competition and jumped 1.55m just missing 1.60m and finishing 5th. 3 top 5 finishes for the 3 girls to complete another strong showing for the club at All Ireland level. Amber Gallagher was unfortunately unable to travel.

Last week at the Furey insurances Buncrana 5k saw a number of athletes take in this very competitive race and PJ Doogan went toe to toe with the national 5k champ Kieran Kelly of Raheny shamrocks with Kieron winning in 14:43 but PJ pushed him hard all the way to claim a new club record road 5k time with an excellent 15:04.  Charlie Postie O’Donnell was 8th in a season’s best 15:53. Mark Ward took home the M35 category win in a swift time of 16:50. Paul McKelvey ran a great time of 17:27 (helping the team to team bronze medals behind winners Derry Spartans and LAC. Patrick Trimble ran 17:38. Noel O Donnell added a PB dropping under 19 mins with 18:50. Adrian Bonner 20:45. Niall Shiel’s new PB in 21:18. In the ladies section Bernie Boyle got on the podium with a new PB of 18:41 for 3rd. Claire O Donnell won the F40 category with a time of 19:15. Martina Mulhern ran 20:54 and Cathy Breslin 21:39 helping the ladies to a team podium position in 3rd. On the Bank holiday Monday at the Scoil Chroine 5k Gavin Ward was home in first place in 17:49, Noel O’Donnell in second place 19:57 and Kevea Gallagher in third place 19:58.
