A Fine Gael TD has expressed shock after a priest told him he was excommunicated from the Catholic Church.
The Irish Times reports that Cork TD Colm Burke was denied communion at a funeral mass on Friday due to his support of legalising abortion.
At the funeral Mass in Whitechurch, local priest Fr Gabriel Burke refused to give the TD communion in the wake of the 8th amendment being repealed.
He also told him that he had been excommunicated from the Catholic Church.
