A work by a talented art student at Loreto Letterkenny was one of four Irish paintings exhibited at the recent International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo.

‘Man to Machine’, by Weronika Jarosinska (16), scooped a second place prize of €1,000 in the prestigious Texaco Art Competition earlier this year.

Weronika won in the 16-18 age category with her captivating artwork.

The 16-year-old’s striking steampunk-style creation stood out amongst a staggering 25,000 entries submitted nationwide for this year’s competition.

Sponsored by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture, the International High School Arts Festival is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious exhibitions to take place in Tokyo annually. Described as ‘a showcase for the world’s best young artistic talent’, it featured the top 500 artworks selected from up to 15,000 works submitted by students worldwide.

Other 2024 Texaco winning artworks displayed were ‘Anticipation’ by Charley Bell (age 17), from Methodist College, Belfast; ‘Best Friends’ by Eimear Fitzgerald (16), from Ennis Art School and ‘Unconditional Love’ by Darragh Granahan (15), from Gort Community School.
