Sharp decrease in number signing on in Donegal – CSO

There has been a sharp decrease in the number of people on the Live Register in Donegal, compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest stats from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), there were 8,395 people signing on here last month, a drop of 11% on August 2023.

The largest decrease was seen in the Killybegs office with 499 people on the register, down 21%.

There were 20% fewer people (926) recorded in Dungloe,  while the figure for Ballyshannon was 917, down 18% on August last year.

Buncrana fell by 11% to 1,514 and Letterkenny showed a drop of 8% to 2,399.

The Ballybofey and Donegal offices recorded a smaller drop of 6% and 5%, or 1,081 and 545 respectively.

Meanwhile, Dunfanaghy recorded the smallest decrease of 4%, down to 514.
