Storm Ashley: Cleanups underway as many Donegal customers still without power

A number of cleanups are underway around Donegal this morning in the aftermath of yesterday’s Storm Ashley.

Heavy flooding was reported in the centre of Dunfanaghy last night, following heavy winds and high tides. Roads were also submerged, mainly in coastal areas, and Donegal County Council is busy clearing fallen trees this morning.

Hundreds of customers remained without power overnight, with Carndonagh being the worst affected. A small number of homes and businesses in Bundoran have also not had their electricity restored.

However, power is expected to be restored to most customers by late morning.

Otherwise, there are no reports of major storm damage around the county.

Fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous, never approach or touch them. Call the ESB emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 (+353 21 2382410), 999 or 112.

Donegal County Council can be contacted during normal business hours on 074 91 53900 and in the event of an out-of-hours emergency the Council’s Road Service can be contacted on 074 91 72288.  For emergencies requiring the assistance of the Fire Service, call 999 or 112.

You can keep up to date on conditions by signing up for free alerts to your phone by registering at www.mapalerter.com/donegal or by following Donegal County Council on Facebook or on X @DonegalCouncil.
