Volunteers are being sought to encourage young people of Letterkenny to enter the Community Games.
The town has been lacking a local committee for years, and therefore a lack of representation at competitions locally and nationally.
The county committee for Donegal Community Games said the time is now to get parents, managers and children back on board.
The matter was one of the issues raised at the recent Donegal Community Games AGM, during which Nancy McNamee was elected as the new President.
Chairman Manus O’Donnell said it was fantastic to see so many areas present. He went on to say that 2024 was another very successful year, with 6500 people attending events, participating, and their families coming to support their children and grandchildren.
Mr. O’Donnell also stated that although we were very successful, we want to get new areas on board. He expressed a hope that areas that were part of Community Games before COVID will come back into the fold.
“The good thing about Community Games is that there’s football, GAA, basketball, etc., and if you’re not into those sports, we have handwriting, model making, quizzes, chess, and draughts, so there’s definitely something for everyone,” said the committee.
“So, if there are any parents, managers, or people who want to volunteer, contact us. We have a great Development Committee too, willing to help. Letterkenny is the biggest area in the County, and they don’t have a committee there, so no competitors. So we want you guys back on board.”

The election of the Committee took place with no changes, with everyone voted back in: Chairman Manus O’Donnell, Secretary Sinead Hagan, Treasurer Cathal Hagan, PRO Tony Mc Carry. The only change is our new President, Nancy McNamee from Ramelton.
Mr. O’Donnell asked areas to make sure their Garda vetting is up to date as well and said he looks forward to seeing everyone again this year. He also welcomed Mandy Boyce to the meeting, the father of that famous Milford Olympian, Brendan Boyce.
