The #BuyDonegal 2024 campaign has achieved record-breaking success, reaching a staggering global audience of 58.9 million, it has been revealed.

This year’s council-led initiative has once again demonstrated the immense power of community spirit and local pride while showcasing Donegal’s exceptional businesses and unique offerings to the world.

Launched to coincide with the lead-up to Christmas, the #BuyDonegal campaign is an initiative of Donegal County Council Economic Development Division and has grown to become a global movement, connecting Donegal’s diaspora and supporters worldwide. The campaign celebrates the region’s remarkable creativity, innovation, and tradition, across a wide range of sectors, by encouraging people to buy locally and support Donegal businesses and families.

The 2024 campaign featured over 400 participating businesses, ranging from handcrafted goods and artisanal food products to tech and hospitality services. A vibrant mix of online and in-store promotions, coupled with engaging social media content and events, captured the imagination of Donegal supporters near and far.

There was strong participation from the Donegal diaspora across the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, and beyond, driving international sales and awareness for local businesses.

Furthermore, creative storytelling, influencer engagement and press features highlighting Donegal-based enterprises through creative themes elevated the county’s profile.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. Niamh Kennedy expressed gratitude to the community and businesses for their unwavering support. “The success of #BuyDonegal 2024 is a testament to the resilience and creativity of Donegal businesses and the loyalty of their supporters. This campaign is not just about buying products, it’s about fostering a connection to Donegal’s rich heritage and future prosperity.

“Donegal-based businesses have reported increased visibility, brand recognition, and sales as a direct result of the campaign. The global reach of #BuyDonegal has also strengthened Donegal’s reputation as a hub of innovation, craftsmanship, and hospitality.”
